Ethos & Vision

Our ethos

Our ethos is one where mutual respect, compassion and a sense of community are fostered within an inclusive and welcoming space for our children, families and staff.

  • We want children to feel safe and happy enough to be independent, curious, confident and creative learners who are empowered to take risks in their play and learning.
  • We celebrate the inherent value of young childhood and view young children as innately capable and with their own sense of agency. Thus the staff have high aspirations and a sense of belief in our children, who they support and extend through their skilful interactions and support.
  • We recognize that the world our children will be growing up in is a fast evolving one and want our children to leave their early years education with lifelong learning traits and dispositions that will support them to thrive in the modern world, such as critical thinking skills, emotional literacy and a sense of empathy for others and the world around them.

Our vision

Our vision is to be a beacon of excellent, research- backed practice in order to give our children the best possible start to their educational journeys.

  • We view the education of young children as a collaborative partnership with parents, families and the local community.
  • We aim to be a community of learners in which the latest educational research and a sense of reflection drive our practice.
  • We see our role as a state maintained nursery school as playing an important part in serving the needs of the community, especially children and families from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • We view our setting as a place of possibilities for young children and see the harnessing of young children’s inquiries, fascinations and curiosities as fundamental to their development as learners and critical thinkers.
