Children's Learning Week Ending Friday 22nd July 2023

Children's learning week ending Friday 14th July 2023

Thank you to all the parents/carers who supported our art in the garden week; we had parents working with the children in a range of wonderful activities including: weaving, sculpting, learning to play a range of instruments including a guitar and trumpet. Thank you very much once again. Pictures of our Fun Afternoon and Sport's day will be uploaded by Friday 21st July.

Children's learning week ending Friday 7th July 2023

The children have been involved in an extensive range of creative experiences from learning to sculpt with wood to create a unicorn, to painting to music as well as learning to create a three dimensional scarecrow! Our huge thanks to all the families who came in to support our Art in the Garden Week; many many thanks.

Children's learning week ending Friday 30th June 2023

There has been a wide range of learning taking place in the nursery including children acting out stories such as  the teddy bear's picnic. Additionally, a number of children have been involved in exploring making a spider's web. We have also had children involved in making their own iced fruit lollies and indeed writing their own recipes! Lastly we have had groups of children visit our local allotment where they have been involved in planting some fruits and vegetables including: tomatoes, red cabbage and runner beans. some of the children were also involved in tasting broad beans and harvesting potatoes; which will be cooked at nursery!

Children's learning week ending Friday 23rd June 2023

Our two year olds have been focusing on re-telling the story: the three billy goat's gruff'. Our nursery aged children have been engaged in experiences including: making recipes for fruit ice lollies, exploring floating and sinking, as well as creating 'fairy stories'. We have also had a number of children involved in creating a large sculpture of a dragon in the art studio. Our thanks to two parents who came into nursery to share some stories with the children. Don't forget it is our sports day on Thursday 29th June @ 9am and 1pm. We look forward to seeing you there! 

Children's learning week ending Friday 16th June 2023

Our two year olds as well as learning about drinking lots of water, they have also been observing the birds in our garden and as such making their own binoculars. 

During this week of course for all our nursery children the learning has included children learning how to keep cool, including learning to make cold citrus drinks and home made ice cream. Some children have also been further developing their knowledge of the natural world through observing a stag beetle found in our garden. The children have been extending their knowledge by reading a range of factual books. This led to bug hunts, finding bees, noticing the difference between honey bees and bumble bees, counting the legs on a centipedes and comparing them to ones that live in the Amazon and observing spiders watching them spin webs and wrapping up their prey. 

We also have had some children being exposed to the art work of Jackson Pollock.

Children's learning week ending Friday 16th June 2023

During this week of course our learning has included children learning how to keep cool, including learning to make cold citrus drinks and home made ice cream. Some children have also been further developing their knowledge of the natural world through observing a stag beetle found in our garden. The children have been extending their knowledge by reading a range of factual books. This led to bug hunts, finding bees, noticing the difference between honey bees and bumble bees, counting the legs on a centipedes and comparing them to ones that live in the Amazon and observing spiders watching them spin webs and wrapping up their prey. 

 

 

Children's learning week ending Friday 9th June 2023

The children have been continuing with developing their learning in knowing how to use woodwork tools safely and effectively. Other children have been observing the life cycle of a butterfly and acting out the wonderful story: A very Hungry Caterpillar. We also had some children learning about the effects of sunlight through washing a range of doll's clothes. 

Children's learning week ending Friday 26th May 2023

The children have been involved in a wide range of learning experiences: including learning how to create a simple circuit, to learning how to use wood work tools as well as learning how to make and cook a pizza on an open fire. We have also had some children involved in designing and building a castle at the bottom of our garden; do come and have a look as well as creating little fairies. Lastly, we also some children exploring ways of creating bubbles! We wish all our families a very happy and safe half term break and look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 6th June 2023. 

Children's learning week ending Friday 19th May 2023

Our children have been involved in a range of learning experiences including some children learning how to use a range of wood work tools safely and effectively. Other children have been involved in role play regarding the theme of 'a car wash'. where they are learning to take turns, engage in imaginative play and collaborate with each other. Lastly, we have a large number of children continue to observe our growing ducklings who will be returning to their farm on Friday.

Children's learning week ending Friday 12th May 2023

During this week the children have been reflecting on their experiences relating to the coronation of King Charles the third. Additionally, a number of children have been continuing their interests in fairies, as well as exploring textures through bare feet walking in our garden. We have also had some children learning about feelings and emotions through creating a collage based on the story 'Rainbow fish'. Our thanks to the families who last week came in to celebrate Japanese Children's day, which is a national holiday celebrating the happiness and health of children. Lastly, we have of course had a large group of children displaying great levels of excitement, curiosity and care for the recent ducklings that have hatched in the nursery

Children's learning week ending Friday 5th May 2023

The children have been learning about the forthcoming King's coronation. Through the process of children designing and making crowns and a thrown the children have been learning that our new king is called: King Charles the third, and a coronation is a special celebration. Some of our children have also been learning about a sceptre and and an orb. Wishing you all a happy coronation weekend.

Children's learning week ending Friday 28th April 

A warm welcome to the children and families who started this week. With all the new children starting our focus of course has been on developing relationships and routines. For other children we have been learning about identifying our feelings through the wonderful book: 'The colour Monster'. Also some children have been involved in planting acorns with the support of Abraham our school caretaker as well as looking out for signs of spring. Other children have been involved in learning about caring for babies and lastly the children's interests in fairies continues, with some children creating a fairy post box using real nails and wood as well as creating fairy wands. We also had a parent come into school to read a story in Tagalog and look forward to celebrating Eid with many of our families on Friday. Please remember the school will be closed on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd May.

Children's learning week ending Friday 21st April 2023

A warm welcome to all parents and carers who returned this after the Easter break and indeed welcome to all our new families who have joined us this term. This week the children have been developing their imagination through continuing with their interest in fairies by developing their writing skills by writing letters to fairies.  A large number of children have been involved in learning about the Christian Orthodox Easter, through listening to the experiences of some of staff and parents as well as being involved in dying eggs as part of the Easter celebrations. 

Children's learning week ending Friday 31st March 

The children have been involved in an extensive range of learning including making models based on their interests in fairies, to some children acting out songs such as five speckled frogs.

It was lovely to see parents coming in to celebrate the recent Iranian new year known as Nowruz (meaning new day). It was equally lovely seeing another parent who is a GP, coming in to share with the children the role of a doctor.

Our huge thanks to all our parents who supported our cake sale we made over £300; thank you very much. 

Please remember tomorrow is the last day of term. Children come back to school on Monday 17th April. We wish you all a very happy and restful Easter break. 

Children's learning week ending Friday 24th March 2023

Our two year olds have been listening to the story: Walking through the jungle and have been deepening their understanding and fun through acting out the story and exploring the concept of ice. 

Some of our children have been involved in a range of planting experiences including the planting of Sunflower, Mint and oregano. In addition we have had a number of children  listening to music and creating images using their feet. 

We have also had a number of children fascinated by fairies and beginning to create their own fairy garden. 

Can I remind all parents the school will be closed for the Easter break from Monday 3rd to Friday 14th April; of course we do have our holiday play scheme running during this time.

Children's learning week ending Friday 17th March

This week the children have been involved in acting out stories including the lovely imaginative story: Where the Wild Things Are, as well as creating webs and learning to use a glue gun in our art studio. Wishing all our families who will be celebrating St Patrick's Day, very happy celebrations.

Children's learning week ending Friday 10th March 2023

The children have been involved in acting out and listening to a range of stories including: Handa's Surprise and the Cat in the Hat. A number of children have also been involved in a range of cooking experiences including making soup with the help of one our parents as well as making hot chocolate!

Children's learning week ending Friday 3rd March

The children have been involved in a wide range of learning from re-telling stories such as 'Where the wild things live' to creating transient pieces of art as well as learning about the Mongolian New Year; as we had a family who celebrates this lovely festival. Our huge thanks to all the parents and carers who were able to come into school and share a story with our children.

Children's learning week ending Friday 24th February 2023

The children have been in an extensive range of learning including, developing their knowledge about recycling and through this beginning to

understand such terms as composting. Additionally a large number of children have been learning about using a range of art mediums in our new art studio. Of course we have equally had a number of children learning about following a simple recipe through making pancakes! Wishing you all a very happy and safe weekend.

Children's learning week ending Friday 10th February 2023

This week the eco -committee met for the first time! Children from blue and green class, staff members and a parent decided on the three priorities the Nursery will be focusing on : biodiversity, litter and school grounds. The eco -committee discussed action points which all the children will be getting involved with for the next 6 weeks. This will be making bird houses for the wonderful  range of birds that visit our garden, to start a litter picking programme that children will take part in weekly in the local community and for every child to plant a seed. This work will be an important part of the children learning about how to care for the world around us and our environment. 

Many children have been involved in acting out traditional tales including the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We have also had a number of children designing and building with the wonderful community play blocks. And some children involved in a range of cooking experiences which is great for their language development as well as enhancing their curiosity and counting skills. 

We also had a sponsored run with our children to raise funds to support children and families who have suffered from the terrible earth quake in both Turkey and Syria. Children's learning week ending Friday 3rd February 2023

During this week many of our children have been learning to listen and act out the story: Goldilocks and the three bears. Some other children have also been learning to collaborate with each other in creating their own models using the large blocks. 

Children's learning week ending Friday 27th January 2023

This week the children have been extensively learning about the lunar new year. Through these experiences our children are learning how to read a simple bar chart; value different cultures and indeed experience a variety of cultures. All of which supports our community further enhancing a sense of belonging. 

 

Children's learning week ending Friday 20th January

The children have been involved in a wide range of learning including; exploring ice, re-telling the imaginative fairy tale, 'The Gingerbread Man' , as well as learning how to follow a recipe such as learning to make a range of different breads including roti as well as a loaf of bread.  We also had the local fire firefighter's visit us in their fire engine which was very exciting.  

 

The children have also been continuing in their important work of taking care of the natural environment. This involved putting the vegetable patch 'to sleep' for the Winter. The children cleared out the patch, removing any dead vegetation and put a layer of mulch and cardboard over the soil. This is to prepare the soil for planting in the Spring. 

 

In blue class the children have been exploring in depth the book of the week ‘The Gingerbread Man’ . They have been acting out the story with small world resources and out in the garden with their friends dressed as the different characters; this has been great for the children to build their knowledge of story narratives and learn the repeated refrains from the story. The children have also been developing their motor skills with  the playdough by rolling out and cutting their gingerbread men and using resources such as stones and beads  to add small details such as eyes and buttons. Some children have also been developing their phonic knowledge writing out recipes for baking  gingerbread men. This all led to children making their own gingerbread people  at the end of the week! Children helped to make the dough which is great for building knowledge of mathematical concepts such as weighing and also social skills such  as collaboration and taking turns. Then the children cut out their own gingerbread person which they decorated in their own creative ways. The gingerbread people were delicious! 

Children's learning week ending Friday 13th January 2023

Our children have been very busy with children in Green class listening to and acting out the wonderful story: Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. From the story the children made their own witches' broom and so involved in acting out the story as well as embellishing their imagination!

In  blue class  the children have been  reading ‘ 3 Billy Goats Gruff ’. Subsequently, outside the children  have been acting out the story with their friends. Some children also added their own characters to the story such as a witch under the bridge and authored their own creative stories. The children have also been looking at images of  famous  bridges and different types of bridges and designing and sketching their own bridges. The children then worked collaboratively to build their large scale bridges based on their designs and then tested them out to see if they were stable enough for the goats to cross over!

A warm welcome back to all our families. The children have settled back very well into nursery and have been learning about a range of things including the importance of recycling, as well as engaging in making boats out of sticks and leaves and then subsequently testing them!

Children's learning week ending Friday 16th December 2022

The children have been involved in exploring the exciting recent snow fall, learning about the Christmas story and singing Christmas carols. On behalf of all our staff and Governors we wish all our parents/carers a very happy festive holiday and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 4th January 2023.  

Children's learning ending Friday 9th December

The children have been involved in a wide range of learning experiences including learning many of our festive songs, as well as learning about the Christmas story and making Christmas decorations. Some children have also been learning about ways of keeping warm and making hot chocolate on an open fire. 

Children's learning ending Friday 2nd December 2022

This week the children have been acting out 'The Gruffalo' in our Wild Woods area and acting out The Gruffalo story on a puppet stage. The children have also experienced using clay and playdough to create their own Gruffalo heads. Children have also been extending their creativity using the Gruffalo story as their inspiration by directing their own unique feature films dressed as the Gruffalo character and authoring their own Gruffalo stories. Other children have been acting out the story 'Whatever Next' including building a rocket!

Children's learning week ending Friday 25th November

Children have been learning about how to care for local  birds as the weather turns colder and they have less food sources and have been busy making bird feeders for our garden  using recyclable materials. Children have also been learning about patterns of bird migration as Winter approaches and exploring this using globes and world maps. Children have also been engaging in  some bird watching using binoculars and starting to learn the names of local birds. They saw robins, pigeons, crows and even some seagulls! Children have also been making some large scale bird nests using natural materials and acting out the roles of baby owls and robins. The children have also been involved in making a den and creating some maps for their friends to find their den. Some of other children including our two year olds have been acting out stories including the wonderful story: Whatever Next. Other children have been exploring malleable materials which is great for sensory understanding and in developing children's self esteem. Wishing you all a very happy weekend. 

 

 

 

Children's learning week ending Friday 18th November 

Our children this week have been involved in an extensive range of learning from re-telling stories including We are going on a bear hunt and 'Owl Babies', as well as learning about the habitats of owls and learning to follow a simple recipe. We also had a parent come in to teach the children about mulching of leaves and making compost and indeed a group of children visiting our local veterinary surgery which also included another parent bringing in their pet dog.  Do have a look at the wonderful range of learning that has taken place. Please remember the school will be closed on Friday 18th November for staff training. 

Children's Learning week ending Friday 18th November 2022

The children have been involved in an extensive range of learning from conducting experiments involving pine needles to establish whether they produce a perfume when crushed and boiled to exploring a range of malleable materials and paints which is great for developing children's dexterity. Other children have been learning about recycling by collecting rain water and some have been developing their knowledge about mini beasts by developing our bug hotel. Please remember the school will be closed for staff training on Friday 18th November.  Wishing you all a very happy weekend.
